Program: Let’s be honest – sometimes we get to choose the direction our careers take, and sometimes, life happens.  Regardless of whether you are contemplating or need a job change or are just beginning a career, researching and discussing the skills, mind sets, personality, and commitment required is as important as evaluating the possible benefits and risks. Betsy Christie, CRM, our Chapter Treasurer and charter member of the chapter, will lead an interactive discussion exploring the differences between government, non-government, consulting, and commercial positions with, of course, an emphasis on records management.  Please join us and contribute your experiences, questions, and advice to help make this program interesting as well as valuable to anyone evaluating the choices and consequences of a career change.   And you never know when you may be the advisor!

Our Speaker: Betsy Christie is currently the Acting Chief of the Records Management and Privacy Branch of Defense Intelligence Agency.  Her major focus has been in support of efforts to modernize DIA’s records management policies and programs.  She is also involved in efforts at the Office of National Defense Intelligence to address common issues regarding the management and sharing of information.  Betsy worked at Communications Satellite Corporation (COMSAT) for over 25 years, serving as the first corporate records manager and authoring the company’s first retention schedule. After the sale of COMSAT to Lockheed Martin and Telenor, she became Manager of Administration for Telenor Satellite Services and established administrative and records management services for Telenor Satellite Services in the United States. From 2005 to 2011, she joined the consulting community, starting at Booz Allen Hamilton.  Her most intriguing and assignment was records management support to the Presidential National Commission on the BP Oil Spill.  Over the years, other clients included the Assistant Secretary for Logistics, Environment, and Energy at the Air Force; Office of the Comptroller of the Currency; AOL; and Centerpoint Energy.

Betsy is a Certified Records Manager and has a BA in Political Science from Dickinson College.  She has been active in ARMA for over 25 years and was the Charter Vice President of the Metropolitan MD Chapter.
